The APU company´s foundation was laid in 1924, by establishing a small hand-processing factory with 14 workers to distill and bottle alcoholic drinks, according to the decision of the Mongolian Government in 1924 to take the exclusive right to sell alcoholic drinks in the territory of Mongolia.
In 1972, APU Co. Ltd was put into operation with technical and financial support of the former Soviet Union and today annually produces 3 million liters of alcoholic drinks, 5 million liters of beer and 3 million liters of beverage. The company plays an important role in forming annual state budget and is one of the leading companies in the national market by its production of vodka, beer and beverage. Since 1992 APU has been changed to a joint-stock company.
"Orgiluun" beverage and "Tungalag" beer were awarded with a prize given to the best products at the "Ulaanbaatar partnershop 97", while new beers "Hungarid", "Mazaalai" and "Titem" were given the same prize at the "Food and Green Revolution 98" exhibition. The company used to produce about 10 different beer brands.
Presently the brewery produces just soft light beer. Only basic raw materials, such as water, malt and hops are used. No chemicals are added and no pasteurization takes place.
